Checkpoint. End of Semester 2

Checkpoint. End of Semester 2

Just as I thought it would, the last weeks of the semester after SXSW flew by.

Most of my time was spent working on our start up, GoodShuffle.com, on our new PBS broadcast television program, Boulder Box Set, and then planning my trips and visits to agencies on both coasts.  It was a whirlwind but it was wonderful, and some highlights included:

  • attending the ATLAS Board meeting to share Boulder Box Set with a very appreciative Board — the feedback was extremely positive and I am extremely honored and humbled to have produced such incredible motion graphics and logo variations with our incredibly talented team
  • BDNT pitch night for our start ups — a practice pitch night for our class at a GREAT place to network, share new businesses, find employees, and just dive into the New Tech scene, which I plan to continue long after the program as completed.
  • BDW pitch night for our start ups — a mock pitch night with monopoly money and venture capitalists to evaluate and “fund” our companies, although our team didn’t “win” with the VC’s there was an Angel Investor present who really thinks we are onto something: which was awesome feedback.

After it was all over, I was pleased to see just how much I’ve learned and grown through the start up class, and our sponsored project with ATLAS and Carl’s Jr.  As the start up class is over and the Carl’s Jr mobile application is with the client, I have plenty of time to focus on helping the team produce the website for our PBS program, which will be finished by the air date, which is still TBD.

Despite all the fun I’m having, I’m struck by the fact that it’s almost over: coursework finishes in early August and we are going to be sent back into the real world to find jobs, which is required to complete the program, but these last few weeks will be our time to polish and finish our studies and exercises, and I’m finding it a little bittersweet.  I’m very excited to get back into the working world, but I’ll miss all my classmates, teachers, administrators and the town and community of Boulder: I know I’ll never have this again, and I’m going to make sure I take full advantage of the last of my school days.

The summer term starts in June…stay tuned for more updates and checkpoints as I near the completion of my classes at BDW: still the best decision yet.
